  • DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE:
I want to take a quick moment to thank all the teams who participated in this year's tournaments and series. Without you, none of this would be possible. We are always trying to improve the tournaments and we have demonstrated this by tweaking the events as suggested by the people who actually fish. We will continue to make this the best series possible. As always, I welcome your suggestions. Don't forget to check out the KING OF BIMINI in April READ MORE See you in next year.

Savanna Lynn“Savanna Lynn” Takes the Challenge in a Tight Race

February 26, 2008, Bimini, Bahamas - The third and final leg of the Bahamas Wahoo Challenge had its share of excitement and big fish.  The first day started out slow for most teams. Half of the fleet did not post a fish, the other half only weighed one fish except for “Cloud Nine” who weighed two fish and took second place in the daily and “Savanna Lynn” who had a spectacular first day and weighed five fish for a one-day total of 210.39-pounds.  The “Savanna Lynn” team captained by Billy Thomas took the early lead in the tournament and the three-part series.  But there was one more day of fishing left and these teams were all geared up for their second shot at winning the tournament.

The field made a 180-degree turn as the fishing was much better on the second day.  The big question was if “Top Vee” could regain their lead in the series or will “Savanna Lynn” pad their lead?  Almost all the teams weighed in fish with many weighing in the limit of five fish.  The top boat for the second day was “Top Vee” with a series high one-day total of 220.77 pounds.  “Svengali” took second place on day two with an impressive 164-pound total.  The big fish of the tournament was brought in by “Savanna Lynn” and tipped the scales at 80.15 pounds.

When all the scores were tabulated, “Savanna Lynn” took top honors for the tournament with a total of 256 pounds. “Top Vee” took second place with 220 pounds and “Anytime” had a late run and finished in third place with 166 pounds.  The tournament was easily calculated, but the series totals had all the teams in suspense until the awards were officially handed out.

The single heaviest wahoo was simple to figure out as it was a Bahamas Tournament record.  “Zephyros” had the honors with their 104.75-pound wahoo captured during the second leg in West End.  The overall Series was an incredibly tight race and a little more difficult to figure out.  For the first two tournaments “Top Vee” held a small lead over “Savanna Lynn,” but the lead slipped away and “Savanna Lynn” took the Series title by a mere 1.4 pounds!  How incredible to have a three-month series determined by such as small margin.  This is a testament to how competitive the tournaments, the series, and the teams are.  These teams represent the best wahoo anglers in the world.
