“Shine On” Basks in their Win
January 18, 2010, Freeport, Grand Bahama - Relative newcomers, “Shine On,” showed that hard work and perseverance pays off. The team had a rocky start on the first day of fishing. Although they did well with four weighable fish, one of them did not count; and it was their largest fish of the day. While bringing the 50-pound fish to the boat, the fish made a final run under the boat and was cut up by the propellers. They did manage to get the fish to the boat and back to the weigh-ins. But as the tournament rules clearly state, the fish was considered “mutilated” and it did not count. It was weighed though and came in at 51 pounds – even with all the meat missing. This did not deter them as they kept the team together and headed out for the second day of fishing and added two nice fish to their total. In the end, they managed to keep the lead and took home first place.
Tournament regulars “Ocean Alley” finished in second place including the tournament’s largest fish at 56 pounds. Coming in third was “Kimbuktu” followed by “Blackwater.”
The Series Championship is also heating up with two teams within 25 pounds of each other. “Kimbuktu” leads “Ocean Alley” with 130 pounds to their 106 pounds. The final count will happen at the third leg.
The third leg’s location was announced at the tournament and it will be hosted at Bimini. The teams and anglers all agree that it makes the most sense to host it there. It’s proximately to Florida and easy access to some of the hottest fishing spots makes it an ideal location for the final chapter of the Series.
